Kottke says a tumblelog is a quick and dirty stream of consciousness… with more than just links. Anarchaia was the first, but there are many copies. And they have a plan.

  1. Journalists need to understand that the "more money won't make you happier" talking point is, in fact, a piece of propaganda designed to weaken public support for wealth-enhancing policies. Once the data is framed correctly, there is really no reason to use the talking points. It does nothing to "balance" the story. Even if it is true that the microwaves and dishwashers of those beneath the poverty line aren't making them happier than they already were, they are freeing up time that would otherwise be spent on cooking and doing dishes. And that's just good.

"Poverty in America and Happiness Talking Points", yet another good post on Will's new blog.

  2. Finished Accelerando last night. Stross is Egan, updated to 2005. Download the book (cc-by-nc-nd 2.5).

  3. SBCL self-hosts on Windows now.

  4. EMMS can now talk to mpd without shelling out to mpc, thanks to mwolson.

  5. Inspired by Anarchaia (a tumblelog, and the best new blog to come along in a while), I'm giving tumblelogging a try in this space. Let's see how it goes. I figure I've got enough input for it.
