reddit

by Edward O’Connor on 1 June 2006

reddit's added the ability to report whole domains as spam. I'm using this to punish uber-linkjackers like mesoanarchy (c2ore.com), zanek (emailbattles.com), and Humorwriter (writingup.com).

  1. Thanks for doing your part to help keep reddit spam-free. Vigilant redditors like yourself make the site that much better for all of us.

"Vilgilant redditor"? Vigilante is more like it…

You, Mr. O'Connor, obviously have no understanding of the english language, or would realize that neither "c2ore" nor "emailbattles" linkjack, as defined in "reddiquette". The definition states: "[Please don't] linkjack stories: linking to stories via blog posts that add nothing extra." This means don't link to a BLOG that contains a link to story outside of the BLOG. It keeps BLOGGERS from receiving gratuitous visits to their weblogs… I also find it very interesting that to you and your fellow vigilantes Blog Critics, Thruthout.org, AlterNet, The Smirking Chimp, and myriad other websites are NEVER the objects of your misplaced wrath. Yet these websites — news aggregators all — perform the same function as do emailbattles and c2ore.

That you and your "inner sanctum" cohorts so blatantly flaunt many dictums of reddiquette — [Please don't] moderate a story based on your opinion of its source; [Please don't] downmod comments just because you disagree with them — and ignore others: [Please do] post links directly to interesting things. Old content and SELF-PROMOTION are okay, because Reddit is a meritocracy, lead many of us who left reddit to infer that there is an ulterior motive behind your, and your cohorts' actions. What thoese motives are, only you know.

It is truly ironic that in recent weeks "What's wrong with reddit" posts have cropped up on reddit. It was tragic to read so many comments that attempted to throw technology at the problem, rather than address the TRUE problem with reddit — PEOPLE. The people like yourself who have managed to twist the rules that are reddiquette to fit the meanings YOU want them to have, rather than YOU adapting to those rules.

It's always saddening to witness humans attempting to play god.
